Description

The repairs have been completed and the refit is done. Captain Chen [link] assumed command of the ship 48 hours ago, and she's about to take her out of space dock.

The dock's lights start to dim while the Atalanta begins to turn-on her own navigation lights and spots. The crew goes through the final pre-launch check list while preparing to fire maneuvering thrusters.

Notes: This is the new model for the Atalanta. It's much more detailed than the first one I used. I will be replacing the main shot located here [link] for an image created using the new model.

:bulletred: As with other images the preview seems a bit blurry. For the sharpest image possible please click on the download link.

This was rendered on DS4 with an uberenvironment for ambient lighting, and many spots on the ship itself. It took about 40 minutes to complete. I still have to learn a lot about how to render ships, so these will probably be replaced in the future. Among others issues, I have a problem with the nacelle lights, because they are supposed to have glowing shaders applied on both red and blue areas, plus linear point lights inside them, but they don't glow, at least not with this kind of global illumination.

It's also not right from a realistic point of view, because the spots do not have shadows enabled. This is mainly because I have a dozen lights on the ship, and that does not include a realistic setting of an additional 48 spots on the dock's panels. It was just too much and the results would have probably been bad. I'm still a noob and go more by trial and error than actual knowledge. All in all I like how it turned out though.

:note: This is part of my USS Atalanta series. You can see more here [link]
