Century Class

Built on 2378, the Ascension is one of the brand new, state of the art Century class starships. According to geekipedia "The Century was the first, true, multi-mission explorer category ship since Starfleet launched the first of the Galaxy Class line of ships, USS Galaxy, in 2357. Designed to execute all scientific, diplomatic, tactical, strategic, and Starfleet policy initiatives, the ship is equipped with the latest technologies in every aspect of starship construction." --more details can be found here [link]

Although in this particular case, the Ascension was snatched for personal use by a Starfleet Intelligence Admiral who abused her influence to get it. That is not to say the ship's capabilities will be wasted. An Admiral's ship will most of the time be used only for transport and diplomatic or political gatherings. But this is not your usual arm chair Admiral. The Ascension will be certainly doing many dangerous things and cloak and dagger stuff that will put the Century through its paces.

The plaque on the bridge of the ship reads "It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves" --a quote from Shakespeare.
