Please see this if you haven't [link]Captain's log, stardate 111505.13
We've arrived to the planet Xerii in the Devron sector. Before the plague this would have been a stronghold of the Romulan Empire, impossible for the Justice to penetrate. But now it's just another ghost land, filled with graveyards in the form of derelict ships. Death traps for whoever dares to board them. Their interiors filled with flesh eating infected mutants.
The planet itself is extremely dangerous. Billions of infected life forms have been confirmed on the surface by our sensors. Fortunately the coordinates for the dig site are clear of them, and far from any cities, in the middle of a rocky mountain formation. Sensor sweeps indicate the presence of large metal deposits, but readings are not precise about what is actually there.
I will take an away team down to investigate up-close. I do not believe we'll be in danger at this remote location, but I will order the ship to yellow alert while any personnel remains on the surface, just in case.
A hundred year old Federation starship crashed in the middle of a Romulan planet, a ship that according to history books was never here. A warbird that fifteen years ago carried something or someone out of this place under secrecy. A virus that destroyed the Romulan Empire and threatens the entire galaxy. A Captain who was once a Borg. Everything is linked, but how ?

Notes: Annika recorded this log before going to the surface. And that is in fact the first starship Enterprise once commanded by James Kirk. So I'll leave it to the viewer, to think about how this fits

Since this is an alternate reality maybe the Planet Killer ran into the Enterprise and was pulverized by it!
